Iran unveiled a new drone called the "kamikaze"

Tasnim posted a video of the new drone.

The Iranian military on Sunday presented a new attack drone designed to fly into targets and explode, like the kind used by Russia in the war in Ukraine. Tasnim, a state-owned news agency, said on Sunday that the latest Iranian drone, whose name has not been publicly announced, is a copy of the Russian Zala Lancet drone, first announced in 2020.

Iran has taken enormous strides in drone production over the past several years and high-tech drones have been heavily used by Russian forces in the crisis in Ukraine.

The United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada imposed on Thursday new sanctions on Tehran, arguing that Iran is developing and exporting weapons that heighten the risk of conflict and weapons proliferation.

Iran's Foreign Ministry dismissed the sanctions.

"These punitive measures will not impact our resolve; on the contrary, they will strengthen our deterrence and self-sufficiency regarding military matters," the official spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, said in a statement.

Kanaani underlined Iran's right to enhance its military capabilities to defend itself from aggressors like Israel, as the Iranian aerial attacks on Israel came after a purported Israeli airstrike on the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus killed high-ranking officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and others.
